Calamine

It is a mixture of zinc oxide ( ZnO ) WITH OBOUT 0.5% ferric oxide ( Fe₂O₃ ) .

Physical and chemical properties:

Appearance : solid.

Odor : odorless.

Molecular weight : 81.38 g \ mol.

Molecular formula : ZnCO₃.

Color : pink .

Malting point :  1975° c.

Solubility: Insoluble in cold and hot water soluble in dilute acetic acid or mineral acid, ammonia, ammonium carbonate.

Storage:-

1.  Keep all medicines out of the reachofcuildren.

2.  Store in cool, dry place away from direct wet and light.

Medical and Pharmaceutical Uses:-

                 i.                      It is a topical protectant.

             ii.                        It is used as a dusting powder, lotion, cream & ointment.

         iii.                        Skin eruption, eczema.

          iv.                        Relive the itching pain.

              v.                        Calamine also dries oozing and weeping.
