
Adjectives
An adjective is a Describing Word. It
qualifies or describes a noun. It adds to the meaning of a noun. It is a
noun-helper. The different kinds of adjectives are as follows :-
1. Adjective of quality :
It shows the kind of quality of an
object or a person.e.g.
• thick
forest.
• old
building.
• wise
man.
• new
clothes
• young
boy
2. Adjective of quantity :
It refers to the quantity. Yet, it is an object or a
person. e.g.
• some books.
• many
people.
• all
fools’ day.
• a
few words.
• a
little amount.
• more
problems.
• much
dificult.
3. Adjective of number :
It is a definite number. It answers the question,
‘How many?‘ It may be a cardinal or ordinal number.e.g.
• She
has three sisters.
• This
is the fourth year.
• It
is one rupee.
4. Demonstrative Adjective :
It is an adjective that points to an object or
objects, a person or persons.e.g.
• This
girl.
• That
pencil.
• These
boys.
• Those
balls.
Note : The words [this], [that], [these], [those]
can function as Demonstrative Adjectives as well as Demonstrative Pronouns.
5. Distributive Adjective :
It is an adjective that refers to a person or thing,
one at a time.e.g.
• Each
on teach one.
• Every
girl is a pearl.
• Walk
along either side.
• Give
support to neither party.
6. Possessive Adjective :
It is an adjective that denotes possession. It is
nothing but the Possessive from of pronouns.e.g.
• My
pen.
• Our
school.
• His
book.
• Their
house.
7. Interrogative Adjective :
It is an adjective used to frame questions. They
are, of course, the question words (what, which, and whose) preceding a noun in
a question.e.g.
• What
colour do you like?.
• Which
book is hers?.
• Whose
son is Akmal.
Excercise
Find out the adjectives in the
following sentences and identify their classifications :

3. The

4. Whose
picture is on the white wall.
5. The
fourth man is fifty years old.

beautiful the red rose is!.

9. This
