
Conjunctions
A conjunction is a word or words used
to join words, phrases or clauses together. So, it is a joiner.
Read the following sentences and note
the words in italics.
• Rahul
and Akmal are friends.
• I
want a pen or pencil.
Note : The conjunctions
"and" and "or" join two words only.
Read the following sentences :
• I
bought some sweets and gave them to my friends.
• He
is slow, but he is sure.
• Walk
fast or you will miss the bus.
• Either
he is mad, or he feigns madness.
• Two
and two make four.
• My
brother is well and my sister is ill.
• Today
is my birthday; therefore I give sweets.
• The
child was hurt, yet she did not cry.
• He
got the prize for he spoke well.
Excercise
Join the pairs of sentences with
suitable conjunctions :

must run fast. You will miss the train.
3. He
did not pass the examination. He did not work hard.

want to go, there is no bus.

plant is very pretty. It is useful.

9. Do
not go to the river for a swim.
