Boric acid

Definition :- A water-soluble white or colorless crystalline compound, H3BO3, used as an antiseptic and preservative and in fireproofing compounds, cosmetics, cements, and enamels. Also called boracic acid, orthoboric acid.

Definition :-  a white, odorless powder or crystalline substance used as a buffer (H3BO3) and formerly used as a topical antiseptic and eyewash. Also called boracic acid, orthoboric acid.

Appearance: Solid (powdered solid).
Odor : odorless.
Taste : Bitter .
Color : white.
Molecular weight : 61.83 g / mole.
Ph : 5.2
Boiling point : 300° c (572° F).
Maltin : 169° c.
Specific gravity : 1.435
Solubility : Soluble in water, methanol partially in cold water, Slightly soluble in  acetone.
Vapor pressure : 2.6 in 20 °c (68 F).
Storage : It should be kept in a well clod  container under cold to warm condition 2 to 20  °c .  Carbon steel or aluminum containers are suitable for storage. Stainless steel in need for moist conditions.    


Pharmaceutical Uses :-
                                                                                                                                        i.            Tablet preparation.
                                                                                                                                     ii.            Capsule preparation.
                                                                                                                                  iii.            Ointment preparation.
                                                                                                                                  iv.            Vaginal suppository preparation.



Medical Uses :-
1)    Aqueous solution of boric acid used as an eye.
2)    Used as an antibacterial.
3)    Used antiseptic for minor burns and cuts.
4)   Used in dressing.
5)   It is an effective treatment for some skin condition such as mild rashes and acne.
