pharmacopoeia codex (B.P.C)
B.P.C
Stands for “British pharmacopoeia codex”
it is the council of the
pharmaceutical society of Great Britain decided to prepare a reference book for
the use of medical practitioner & dispensing pharmacist.
The first edition of BPC was published in 1939 ,
1954 , 1959 , 1963 , 1968 & 1973.
One the request of BP commition the council of
pharmaceutical society agreed in 1959 for publication of codex to concede with
that of BP.
B. British
pharmacopeia. (BP)
BP stands for “British pharmacopoeia” the
responsibility of publishing the British pharmacopoeia has rested upon the
general medical council since the medical act 1858. According to the
recommendations of the Macmill an committed for the preparing new edition of
the pharmacopoeia was entrust by general medical council to the pharmacopeia
commition.
The pharmacopoeia commition is reconstituted from
time to time. A new edition of British pharmacopoeia is prepared &
published since 1948 & then published at intervals of five years 1953 ,
1958 , 1963 , 1968 , 1973 & 1978 , 1983 , 1988.
British pharmacopoeia is the source of official slandered
for drug in the United Kingdom & other countries of the world.
It is the main source of pharmaceutical knowledge
about pharmaceutical products & slandered & it also the method of
analysis of the same.

Extra pharmacopeia.
The “Extra pharmacopoeia” was first produced in 1883
by William martinada and is still known as “martinada”. This is an authorized
reference book on drugs & it is used throughout the world. It provides all
sorts of latest information on drug & medicine. The extra pharmacopoeia is
prepared by consulting the pharmacopoeias of other countries. The twenty eight
edition was published in December 1989 by direction of the council of the royal
pharmaceutical society of are at Britain and prepared in the society’s Department
of pharmaceutical sciences.
Formularies:- Formularies
contains a list of drugs & other related substances regarding their sources
description test formula preparing the same action uses dose storage condition
etc.
Non-official
compendia :- The books other them official drug compendia which
are used as secondary reference sources for drugs & other related substance
are known as non-official drug compendia. This includes Merck under the United
States dispensatory.

The United states Pharmacopeia.( U.S.P)
USP stands for “The united states pharmacopoeia” .
The USP is recognized as official compendia & is
used as reference book for determining the strength quality purity packaging
& labeling of drugs & other related articles the USP was originally
published in 1920 under the authority of the united state pharmacopoeia
convention. Then the new edition of this book ravished. So long it is continued
in our present age.
