Capsule
 Definition: - Capsules are the solid unit dosage form of medicament in which the drug(s) is enclosed in a practically tasteless, hard or soft soluble container or shell made up of a suitable form of gelatin.

 Advantage of Capsules:-
1.    It is easily administered.
2.    Usually it is taken orally.
3.    They are attractive is appearance.
4.    It provides tasteless and odorless administration of bitter drugs.
5.    They are economical preparation.
6.    They are easy to handle and carry.
7.    It is easy to store.
8.    Capsule provides rapid release of medication in the stomach.
9.    By the filling of tablet or granules action may be longer.

 Disadvantage of Capsules:-
1.    Capsules are not suitable for liquids.
2.    Highly soluble drugs can’t be given in capsule dosage form ( CaCl2, KCl).
3.    Capsules are highly prone to microbial contamination.
4.    They are not suitable for highly deliquescent drugs.
5.    Some of the capsule need highly desiccated environment to produce.
6.    Which is made with gelatin may produce 100 se motions.

 Types / Classification of capsule:-
1.    Hard capsule       Antibiotic capsule
2.    Soft capsule Vitamin A capsule
3.    Coated capsule   Gastro-resistant capsule
4.    Sustained release capsule Fe-plus
5.    Implant capsule  Injectable contraceptive

Special types of Capsules:-
Special types of capsules are as follows:
A.   Enteric coated capsule: An enteric coated capsule dose not disintegrate in the stomach or ocedic medium but breaks up in the testing.

B.   Rectal and vaginal capsule: Soft gelatin capsule may be used as substitute for rectal or vaginal suppositories.

 Composition of Capsule:-

i.     Capsule shells ( composed of gelatin or other materials  )
ii.    Active ingredient or ingredients.
iii.  Solvents, diluents, lubricants and disintegrating agents.
iv.   Anti-microbial preservatives ( methy1 & propy1 parables )
v.    Sweetening, flavoring and authorized coloring agents.

Answer :- Capsule should be packed in will closed glass container or plastic container and stored in a cool dry place. So capsule should be protected from moisture and dust. New a day’s capsules are packed in strip or fails.
These types of packing provide the capsule on sanitary condition and safe handling of the medicine.
