compressed tablet.

and prepared either by molding or by compression.

Disadvantage of
Tablets
Tablets have following disadvantages:-
i. Some
drugs are difficult to compress due to low bulk density are amorphous nature.
ii. Tablets
are difficult to swallow for children and old patient.
iii. Bitter
tasting drugs and drugs with an abjection able dour.
iv. Not
suitable for drugs that are highly degradation.
v. Huge
equipment and space is needed.

1. Uncoated
tablet.
a) Chewable
tablets: There are chewed and saw allowed such as--
• Antacid
• Vitamin
C
• Multivitamin
b) Sublingual
tablets: Taken under the tongue there drugs are easily dissolved, rapidly
absorbed and discorded when desire

• Nitroglycerin.
• Nifedipine.
• Isoprinosine
sulphate.
c) Lozenges
tablets (no disintegrating agent)
d) Effervescent
tablets: they are intended to be dissolve or dispersing water before
administration such as__
• Disprin
e) Implant
tablets: These are implant in a highly
compressed form, release slowly and remain for action of years such as-
• Norplant(hormonal
contraception)
f) Sustained
release tablets: This release in sub sequent amount a single part prolongs the
duration of action of drug. Such as___
• Diclofenac-SR
2. Coated
tablets: There are three types.
• Sugar
coating.
• Film
coating.
• Enteric
coating.
Essential properties
/ Qualities of a good Tablet:-
1) They
should be accurate and uniform in weight.
2) They
drugs should be uniformly distributed throughout the tablets.
3) The size
and shape should be reasonable for easy administration.
4) The
tablets should not be too hard that it may not disintegrate in the stomach.
5) They
should be elegant product having own identify.
6) There
should not have any incompatibility while in combination.
7) They
should be free of defects. Such as__ chips, cracks discoloration and
contamination.
8) Manufacturing
process should be easy and economic.
