 Classification of NSAIDs:-
According to their anti-inflammatory action.

1.     Drugs with analgesic but with negligible anti-inflammatory action.
Example: - Acetaminophen ( paracetamol ) , Phenacetin .

2.     Drugs with analgesic and mild moderate anti-inflammatory action.
Example: - Ibuprofen, Ketoprofen, flufenamic acid.

3.     Drugs with analgesic and strong anti-inflammatory action.
Example:- Acetyls salicylic acid, Sodium salicylate, Diclofenac, Piroxicam.

Classification of NSAIDs
1.     Low anti-inflammatory. Example:  Acetaminophen ( paracetamol ) , Phenacetin .

2.     Moderate anti-inflammatory action. Example: Ibuprofen, ketoprofen , Indoprofen , Naproxen.

3.     Potent anti-inflammatory. Example:  Aspirin, Diclofenac Na , Sodium salicylate  , Indomethacin.

 Mechanism of action of NSAIDs
Prostaglandin is formed from arachidonic acid by the enzyme cyclooxygenase. NSAIDs inhibit cyclooxygenase enzyme. So less prostaglandin is formed so less inflammation and less pain occur.
